เมื่อเป็นเด็กดิฉันชอบเล่นซ่อนหา ยังจำตอนที่ขดตัวอยู่หลังเก้าอี้ที่คุณพ่อใช้เอน
กายพักผ่อนได้ว่า ดิฉันพยายามกลั้นหัวเราะไว้ไม่ให้น้องได้ยินและที่น้องสาวเดินเตาะแตะ
เรียกชื่อดิฉันไปทั่วบ้าน เธอพยายามมองหามือและเท้าซึ่งอาจจะโผล่ออกมาให้เห็นจากที่
ซ่อน ดิฉันไม่สามารถกลั้นหัวเราะได้นานพอที่จะซ่อนตัวไว้ไม่ให้เธอหาพบ เธอเดินผ่านดิฉันไปมาอยู่หลายครั้ง ภายในไม่กี่วินาที
ดิฉันโผล่ออกมาจากที่ซ่อนและวิ่งกลับไปที่ปลอดภัยอย่างสนุกสนาน พร้อมกับส่งเสียง
ร้องว่า “ไชโย ปลอดภัยแล้ว”
ถึงเดี๋ยวนี้ดิฉันไม่ใช่เด็กแล้ว แต่บางครั้งยังรู้สึกว่าชีวิตเหมือนการเล่นซ่อนหา
หน้าที่การงาน ความสัมพันธ์ การเป็นพ่อแม่ ความเจ็บไข้ได้ป่วย การบำบัดรักษาและ
ยาเสพติด เป็นความลำบากของชีวิตที่คอยทดลองหลอกหลอนเราให้หลบตัวและหนี
ห่างจากความเจ็บปวด แต่พระคัมภีร์ช่วยชี้ทางเราไปหาที่ลี้ภัยและป้องกันอันตรายชนิด
ที่โลกให้ไม่ได้“พระนามของพระเจ้าเป็นป้อมเข้มแข็ง คนชอบธรรมวิ่งเข้าไปในนั้นและ
ปลอดภัย” (สุภาษิต 18:10) พระนามของพระเจ้าเป็นที่ปลอดภัย เป็นที่หยุดพักเมื่อ
เราเหน็ดเหนื่อยจากการวิ่งหนีและซ่อนตัวจากอันตราย พระเจ้าทรงเป็นที่ลี้ภัยของ
คนชอบธรรมที่แสวงหาเสถียรภาพและความเข้มแข็งจำเพาะพระพักตร์พระองค์
"ข้าแต่พระเจ้า โปรดช่วยข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายให้รู้จักพลังของพระองค์ และ
ให้แสวงหาพระองค์ทั้งระหว่างที่มีความทุกข์เจ็บปวดและเมื่อมีความยินดีปรีดา ใน
พระนามพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า อาเมน"

Hide-and-seek was one of my favorite childhood games. I remember curling up behind my dad’s recliner, stifling a giggle that begged to erupt. My sister, Rainey, would prowl through the house chanting my name, anxious to spot a rogue foot or hand that would expose my hiding spot. Most of the time, I couldn’t keep quiet long enough to avoid discovery. But every now and then, she passed me by. Within seconds, I would bolt from my cover and whisk toward home base, the game’s safe harbor. Sheer exhilaration and relief flooded my seven-year-old body every time I escaped my sister’s stalking and made it to the game’s sanctuary, singing out, “I’m safe, I’m safe!”
I’m not a small child anymore, but sometimes life feels like a game of hide-and-seek. Jobs, relationships, parenting, heartaches, medical issues, addictions — life’s difficulties tempt us to take cover and to retreat from the pain. But scripture gives us a map to home base, which offers refuge and protection the world cannot provide. “The name of the LORD is a fortified tower,” our safe place, our destination when we are tired of running and hiding. God offers relief for the righteous who seek security in the strength of God’s presence.
