เดือนสิงหาคมของทุกปีถือว่าเป็นเดือนแห่งแม่เนื่องจากเป็นเดือนที่มีวันเฉลิมพระชนม์พรรษาของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯพระบรมราชินีนาถ
คำว่าแม่เป็นคำสำคัญที่อยู่คู่กับวัฒนธรรมไทยในทุกวงการอย่างเช่นในวงการบริหารเราเรียกผู้นำว่าแม่ทัพหรือวงการการศึกษาเราเรียกนครูว่าแม่พิมพ์ และวงการศาสนาเราเรียกนักบวชที่เป็นสตรีว่าแม่ชี เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้พระคริสตธรรมคัมภีร์ได้กล่าวถึงแม่และให้ความสำคัญด้วยเช่นกันอย่างในพระธรรมสุภาษิตบทที่ 1 ข้อ 8และ9 กล่าวว่า “บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงฟังคำสั่งสอนของพ่อเจ้า และอย่าละทิ้งกฎเกณฑ์ของแม่เจ้าเพราะทั้งสองนั้นจะเป็นมาลัยงามสวมศีรษะของเจ้า เป็นจี้ห้อยคอของเจ้า” และในบทที่ 6 ข้อ 20 ถึงข้อที่ 22 กล่าวว่า “บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงรักษาบัญญัติของพ่อเจ้า และอย่าละทิ้งกฎเกณฑ์ของแม่เจ้ามัดมันติดไว้บนใจของเจ้าเสมอผูกมันไว้ที่คอของเจ้าเมื่อเจ้าเดิน มันจะนำเจ้า เมื่อเจ้านอนลง มันจะเฝ้าเจ้า และเมื่อเจ้าตื่นขึ้น มันจะพูดกับเจ้า” เมื่อข้าพเจ้าได้ชมภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Forrest Gump อันเป็นภาพยนตร์ที่มีตัวเอกเป็นชายที่มีระดับไอคิวที่ต่ำกว่ามาตรฐานของคนปกติถูกล้อเลียนว่าเป็นคนปัญญาอ่อนที่แม่ของเขาสอนวิถีทางการดำเนินชีวิตและให้เขาเลือกใช้ชีวิตด้วยตัวเอง ซึ่งเขามักจะพูดว่า “My mama always said life was a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get” และ “ My mama always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, Where they are going, Where they have been” บทเรียนจากภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ทำให้ข้าพเจ้าได้มาใคร่ครวญถึงคำสั่งสอนของแม่ที่แม่ของข้าพเจ้ามักจะพูดว่า “หมั่นต๋ายหลังด้าน ค้านต๋ายหลังหัก” (คน ขยันตายเพราะหลังที่ด้านแต่คนเกียจคร้านตายเพราะหลังหัก) มีความหมายว่าการสะสมงานไว้มากเกิน(เพราะขี้เกียจ) จนทำไม่ไหว จะเกิดผลเสียต่อตนเองและส่วนรวม ในเดือนสิงหาคมนี้ท่านลองคิดถึงคำสอนที่ท่านได้รับจากแม่แล้วจพบว่ามันเป็นส่วนสำคัญต่อความคิดและการกระทำของเราในทุกวันนี้

Every year August is a month of mother because Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Birthday celebration falls in this month. Mother is an important word and inserted in Thai culture such as Commander, Teacher and Nun. In the bible, the importance of mother is cited in Proverbs1:8-9 "My son, listen to your father's instruction, and don't forsake your mother's teaching: for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck." and 6:20-22 "My son, keep your father's commandment, and don't forsake your mother's teaching. Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you" Forrest Gump is another example of a simple man with a low I.Q. but good intentions. His mother teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Like “My mama always said life was a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get” and “ My mama always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, Where they are going, Where they have been” This story remind me of my mother an old saying that says “Hard working makes your back stronger but laziness breaks it down” It means that if you pile up your job because of your laziness, it will cause damage to you and the whole sector.
