แฟรงค์อาศัยอยู่ในเต็นท์ข้างสนามบิน เขามีอายุ 67 ปี เป็นคนไร้บ้านและชอบเก็บตัว ผู้คนพากันหลีกเลี่ยงแฟรงค์เพราะเขามีฐานะยากจนและแต่งตัวรุงรัง คนที่ทำเช่นนั้นตัดสินเขาผิดพลาด ผมเองก็เคยทำเช่นนั้นด้วย แต่พอรู้จักแฟรงค์ดีจึงรู้ว่าเขาเป็นคนมีใจเมตตาและเอื้อเฟื้อช่วยดูแลหญิงไร้บ้านคนหนึ่งกับแมวของเธอที่พักอยู่ใกล้กัน เขาให้อาหารนกและกระรอกที่อยู่ในบริเวณนั้น เขาน่าจะเป็นทูตสวรรค์จำแลง
กายมามากกว่า “ จงให้ความรักฉันพี่น้องมีอยู่ต่อกันเสมอไป อย่าละเลยที่จะต้อนรับแขกแปลกหน้า เพราะว่าโดยการกระทำเช่นนั้น บางคนก็ได้ต้อนรับทูตสวรรค์โดยไม่รู้ตัว” (พระธรรม ฮีบรู13:1-2)
เรามักจะด่วนประเมินและวินิจฉัยคนอื่นผิดๆ โดยดูที่รูปกายภายนอก เช่น ดูที่เสื้อผ้า ที่อยู่อาศัยและการพูดจา แต่พระเยซูทรงสอนเราให้ดูที่ “ผล” ของพวกเขา กว่า“ผล” จะพัฒนาและเติบใหญ่ขึ้นต้องใช้เวลา ในบางครั้งเราจะรู้จักผู้อื่นได้ด้วยผลของพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ที่เกิดขึ้นและเติบโตในพวกเขาและเราด้วยอัครสาวกเปาโลเขียนรายชื่อผลของพระวิญญาณไว้ว่ามี“ความรัก ความปลาบปลื้มใจ สันติสุข ความอด
กลั้นใจ ความปรานี ความดี ความสัตย์ซื่อ” (กาลาเทีย 5:22)
ถ้าเราใช้เวลาทำความรู้จักคนรอบข้างและดูชีวิตของคนเหล่านั้นว่าเกิดผลอย่างไรจริงๆ แล้ว เราอาจจะพบว่ารอบตัวเรามีทูตสวรรค์จำแลงกายอยู่มากมาย

ANGELS IN DISGUISE
“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. . . Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” - Matthew 7:18, 20 (NIV)
Frank lives in a tent by the airport. He is 67, homeless, and mostly keeps to himself. People avoid Frank because of his situation and rough image. Those who do, misjudge him; I know I did. As I’ve gotten to know Frank, I’ve learned that he has a kind and generous heart. He cares for a homeless woman and her cat who live nearby. He feeds the birds and squirrels who live around him. Frank just might be an angel in disguise. “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:1-2)
It’s easy to leap to conclusions and to misjudge others. We tend to notice the outward things: their clothes, where they live, how they talk. But Jesus told us we can recognize the character of people by their “fruit.”
Fruit takes time to develop and grow. Over time we will get to know others by the fruit that the Holy Spirit grows not only in them but in us as well. The apostle Paul lists that fruit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23, CEB).
When we take the time to get to know the people around us, we allow ourselves to see the real fruit they possess. We may discover angels in disguise all around us.
