จากความตายไปสู่ชีวิต FROM DEATH TO LIFE

"ถ้าผู้ใดฟังคำของเราและวางใจในพระองค์ผู้ทรงใช้เรามาผู้นั้นก็มีชีวิตนิรันดร์และไม่ถูกพิพากษา
 แต่ได้ผ่านพ้นความตายไปสู่ชีวิตแล้ว" (ยอห์น 5:24)
          ดิฉันดูแลโจเซฟินพี่สาวที่ป่วยใกล้จะเสียชีวิต หน้าที่ของดิฉันระหว่างสองสัปดาห์
นั้นมีทั้งการแสดงความรักด้วยการคอยฟังคอยป้อนอาหารและให้ความมั่นใจว่าพระเจ้า
ทรงประทับอยู่ด้วย ครั้งหนึ่งระหว่างที่เยี่ยมโจเซฟิน พยาบาลขอให้ดิฉันนั่งข้างเตียงเธอ
         ต่อหลังจากหมดเวลาเยี่ยมแล้ว ดิฉันรู้สึกดีใจทีได้อยู่กับพี่สาวนานขึ้น

คิดถึงตอนเรียนรวีวารศึกษาเรื่องพระดำรัสครั้งสุดท้ายของพระเยซูที่ตรัสว่า “พระบิดาเจ้าข้า
ข้าพระองค์ฝากวิญญาณจิตของข้าพระองค์ไว้ในพระหัตถ์ของพระองค์” แสดงว่าพระเยซู
ทรงรู้ดีว่าพระองค์กำลังจะไปที่ไหน ใครๆ ที่รู้จักและเชื่อฟังพระเจ้าสามารถเผชิญความตาย

     I was taking care of my sister, Josephine, who had a terminal condition. For two weeks my duties had included showing her love by listening to her, helping her eat, and assuring her that God was present with her. During one of the visits, the nurses asked me to stay by her bedside even after visiting hours. I was grateful for the extra time with my sister.
     While I was there, my sister asked me to help her take a bath. After the bath as I helped her dress, led her into bed, and tucked her in, I remember thinking that she was getting well. Josephine then whispered, “Violet, you can go now. God will bless you.” As I was on my way home, I was called back to the hospital. On arrival, I was ushered into a waiting room and told that my sister had passed on shortly after I left. Though I felt great pain, her last words consoled me, “God will bless you.”
     I never imagined that I would have the privilege of hearing someone’s last words, and these words reminded me of what I had been taught in Sunday school about Jesus’ seven last sayings. The seventh one, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit,” means that Jesus knew where his spirit would be going. Like Jesus and my sister, anyone who knows and obeys God can face death with the assurance that they will soon be resting in the arms of God.

          I was driving in the right lane with my foot to the floorboard. The speed limit was 50 mph, but my car would not go any faster than 20 mph. Several drivers glared as they sped past me. Some had clenched fists, uttering words I thankfully couldn’t understand. They had no idea that I was going as fast as my car would allow. They unfairly judged me solely because of what they saw.
          Circumstances and situations aren’t always as they appear. When relevant information is missing or overlooked, we all make assumptions. I learned what it’s like to be on the receiving end of unmerited judgment. God used this incident to humble me and to reveal the sin in my own heart. It was time for me to repent, to turn away from my sin.
          How often do we jump to wrong conclusions because we failed to get all the facts? How often have our thoughts about others been judgmental? Instead of judging others, we can delight in God’s goodness and begin to learn how to extend God’s grace to others in their times of need.
Thought for the Day: “Mercy triumphs over judgment” (Jas. 2:13, NIV, NRSV).
Prayer: Dear Lord, empower our hearts to search beyond what our eyes see so that we are careful not to pass judgment on others. Amen.

เด็กยากจนทั่วโลก แต่ดิฉันเป็นแม่หม้ายมีลูกติดสามคนและยากจนเกินไปไม่สามารถ
บริจาคอะไรได้พอถึงปีค.ศ. 1976 พระเจ้าทรงเรียกดิฉันกลับมาเป็นครูสอนพระคัมภีร์

         Forty years ago, when I lived in the United States, I learned about an organization that helped poor children all over the world. But as a single mother of three, I myself was too poor to make a contribution. Then in 1976, God called me back to Iceland to teach the Bible here. We were still poor, but in 1978 God made it possible for me to be a sponsor for children around the world. The first child I sponsored was a girl from India. Since then I have sponsored children in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Rwanda, Barbados, Thailand, as well as on Native American reservations.
         At age 77, I still sponsor four children, though I have lived on disability since 1985. I am encouraged by today’s reading in which Jesus teaches us that it’s not the size of the gift that matters to God but the generosity of the giver’s heart. My small contribution sustains two children in Uganda for a whole month! I contribute what I can, and I thank God for the joy I receive from helping these children.

     With sunrise an hour away, my friend and I had the responsibility of marking the 5K course for the walkers and runners participating in the race sponsored by two neighborhood churches. In a pickup truck, carrying directional signs, water for the halfway point, and a map, we started. We marked the straightaways and turns for the participants with temporary directional arrows to ensure that no one would go the wrong way.
     At times in my life, I have gone the wrong way, ignoring the directional arrows found in the Bible. Eventually, the arrows on the race course disappeared; but the wisdom and guidance found in the Bible endure. My capacity to learn from making wrong turns and to follow God’s leading depends on my daily commitment to connect with the Lord through reading the Bible. Proverbs 3:3 captures the direction I need: “Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”

จากผม ตอนส่งใบเสร็จรับเงินให้เธอพูดกับผมว่า “ขอบคุณค่ะ คุณจอห์น” ผมรู้สึกงง
ว่าทำไมเธอถึงรู้จักชื่อของผมแล้วก็นึกขึ้นได้ว่าผมยังกลัดป้ายชื่อตนเองตอนเข้านมัสการ
ในโบสถ์อยู่
     รายการป้ายชื่อของเราที่คริสตจักรและข้อพระคัมภีร์จากอิสยาห์ที่อ่านวันนี้สำคัญมาก การกลัดป้ายชื่อสมาชิกคริสตจักรก็
เพื่อช่วยให้ผู้มาใหม่รู้จักชื่อของใครต่อใครและรู้สึกเป็นกันเอง ป้ายชื่อยังเตือนใจทั้งผู้

The Lord says, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
- Isaiah 43:1 (NRSV)
     One Sunday the cashier at a local store was smiling at me broadly as she totaled my bill. As she handed me my receipt, she said, “Have a great day, John!” I was puzzled by how she knew my name. Then I realized that I was still wearing my name tag from church.
     Our name tags list the name of our church and today’s quoted verse from Isaiah. By wearing these name tags, church members hope to help newcomers learn people’s names and feel welcome. The quote on the tags also reminds the wearer and the reader that God has called us each by name. I realized that by wearing my name tag, I was sharing this message of welcome with people in the store — and I didn’t even realize it!
     After this experience, I now make it a point to wear my church name tag in public places before and after our worship services. My name tag makes me more aware that people may notice my behavior, and so I am mindful that I may be the best example of a Christian that someone might see that day. This practice reminds me that God has called each of us by name to be living examples of God’s love in Christ no matter where we are.

รบกวนพระเจ้า PESTERING GOD

ทำอะไร ดิฉันจะเซ้าซี้ท่านไม่ยอมหยุด จนหลายครั้งท่านต้องบอกให้หยุดรบเร้าเพราะ
ท่านได้ยินแล้วและกำลังพิจารณาคำขอของดิฉันอยู่ แต่ดิฉันไม่ยอมหยุดง่ายๆ เพราะ
ดิฉันเป็นคนชอบขอ
      เมื่อหลายปีก่อนลูกของดิฉันคนหนึ่งมีปัญหาอย่างน่าเป็นห่วง ดิฉันอธิษฐานตลอด
เพราะไม่สามารถปล่อยให้เป็นเช่นนั้นต่อไปได้ดิฉันเป็นห่วงมากจนคิดว่าตนเองกำลัง
ทำให้พระเจ้ารำคาญเหมือนที่เคยทำให้คุณแม่รำคาญตอนที่รบเร้าท่านไม่ยอมหยุด
     แล้วดิฉันก็สบายใจอย่างน่าทึ่งเพราะพบคำอุปมาของพระเยซูในลูกา 18:1-7 ที่
สอนว่าพระเจ้าไม่ทรงรำคาญที่เราอธิษฐานรบเร้าพระองค์ตลอดเวลา น่าดีใจยิ่งนักที่รู้
ว่าพระเจ้าทรงต้องการให้เรานำความวิตกทุกข์ร้อนทูลพระองค์ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า ถึงแม้
สถานการณ์ปัจจุบันที่ทำให้ดิฉันเป็นห่วงมากจะคลี่คลายลงแล้ว แต่ดิฉันก็ยังรบเร้า

     “Oh please, Mommy! Please! Oh please!” I said. When I was a child and wanted my mother to say yes, I pestered her constantly. She often told me to stop begging, that she had heard me already and was considering my request. But it was hard for me to be quiet; pleading for something I wanted seemed to be in my nature.
     Some years ago, one of my children was struggling, and I was concerned. I prayed about it constantly. I couldn’t let it go. My concern was so great that I found myself thinking, I must be driving God crazy, the way I used to drive my mom crazy when I pestered her.
     Then to my amazement and relief, I discovered Jesus’ parable in Luke 18:1-7. God is not bothered by our constant prayers. How reassuring to know that God wants to hear our concerns over and over again! Today the situation I was so concerned about has been resolved. But of course, I’m still pestering God. Now I smile and thank the Lord for letting me voice my concerns in prayer over and over again.

Jesus said, “Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”- Matthew 28:20 (CEB)
    While walking along the lakeside of our local county park, taking photos of the beautiful landscape, and enjoying the sunshine and warm breezes, I noticed something lying in the dirt. It was a child’s tiny toy truck — rusty, dented, apparently abandoned and forgotten by its young owner. As someone struggling with depression, I can often feel the same way: cast aside and forgotten. But God’s word reminds me that’s not so!
     After Moses died, leaving Joshua with the overwhelming responsibility of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, God encouraged Joshua by promising: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.”
    And in John 14, Jesus prepared his disciples for his imminent departure. “Do not let your hearts be troubled,” he told them (v. 1); and a little later on, he promised, “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you” (v. 18).
    At times, we may feel as though no one cares about us, making us think we have been abandoned and forgotten. But we can take comfort in the truth of God’s promise never to leave us or forsake us.

นักเรียนคนอื่นตกเก้าอี้ขณะนั่งโยกเล่นและต้องไปโรงพยาบาลเพื่อเย็บแผล เมื่อห้ามเขาแล้วดิฉัน
ก็เดินไปช่วยนักเรียนอีกคนหนึ่งทำเลข แค่ไม่กี่นาทีเท่านั้นนักเรียนที่นั่งโยกเก้าอี้เล่นก็หัวคะมำลง
กับพื้นห้อง ทำให้ดิฉันนึกถึงหลายคนในพระคัมภีร์ที่ไม่ยอมเชื่อฟังพระเจ้า
พระคัมภีร์บอกว่าพระเจ้าทรงขอให้เราเชื่อฟัง เพราะการเชื่อฟังจะนำพระพรมาให้
ในข้อพระคัมภีร์สำหรับอ่านวันนี้บอกว่าโมเสสท้าชวนพวกอิสราเอลให้“เชื่อฟังพระ-

"All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God."- Deuteronomy 28:2 (NIV)
     Recently, I saw a student rocking his chair in class. I reminded him that another student had fallen while rocking his chair and had needed to go to the hospital for stitches. I told the student not to rock the chair, and I continued helping another student with his mathematics. A few minutes later, when the student who was rocking his chair fell, I was reminded of how often characters in the Bible struggled to obey God.
     In scripture, God calls us to obey because obedience will lead to blessings. Moses challenged Israel in today’s reading to “carefully follow all [the LORD’S] commands.” Moses reminded Israel that in keeping them, “all these blessings will come on you and accompany you.” Their cities would be blessed. Their families and farms would be blessed. They would experience abundance. Moses concluded, “You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.”
     A life of obedience to God requires much and is difficult at times, but the path leads to joy and blessings.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills — from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD."- Psalm 121:1-2 (NRSV)
     During our son Paul’s training as a cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy, he and the other cadets were tested to their limits. As his parents, Betty and I supported him during those trying days. We wrote to him, prayed daily for him, and encouraged him to draw strength from Psalm 121 — a favorite scripture of ours. That psalm spoke directly to him there in the Colorado mountains when the psalmist said: “I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord.” We often encouraged our son to look up to the mountains that surrounded him and to remember this psalm.
     Upon completion of his basic training, he said that our encouragement and the spiritual strength he drew from this passage — and his own personal faith — had enabled him each day to face tough challenges with renewed confidence. Throughout his years as a cadet, our son continued to draw inspiration from the Lord through regular worship in the Air Force Academy chapel. All during his 20 years as a pilot, he knew that God was near.
     When we face difficulties — such as disease, loss of a loved one, or loss of a job — we can turn to Psalm 121 and lift our eyes to the Lord with the assurance that God will help us and sustain us.

     ผมมีปัญหากับการอธิษฐานมานานหลายปี ปัญหาจริงๆ ไม่ได้อยู่ที่การอธิษฐาน
แต่อยู่ที่ผมกลัวว่าจะอธิษฐานได้ไม่ถูกต้อง เคยมีผู้แนะนำวิธีอธิษฐานไว้หลายอย่าง
ทำให้ผมกลัวจนไม่รู้ว่าจะใช้ถ้อยคำอย่างไรดี เมื่อเกิดวิกฤตกาลเล็กน้อยครั้งหนึ่งซึ่ง
ผมอยากจะทูลพระเจ้าให้ทรงรู้ว่าผมต้องการให้พระองค์ประทับอยู่ด้วยไม่ว่าอะไรจะ
เกิดขึ้น พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ทรงดลใจให้ผมอ่านพระธรรมโรม 8:26 ไว้เสมอ จนใน

      For years, I had trouble praying. The problem was not in the actual act of prayer but in the fear that I wasn’t praying correctly. I had received so much advice on different ways to pray that I was afraid of not making myself understood. In the midst of a minor crisis in which I wanted to communicate that I needed God with me no matter what happened, the Spirit led me to dwell on Romans 8:26. I finally understood. The words I use are not all that important; I simply need to pray. God knows what is happening in our lives and what we need. And the Holy Spirit helps us to pray, giving voice to all we are trying to say.
     Since then, praying has been easier for me. Sometimes I pray in new or different ways. Even when I feel muddled, I now understand that the Spirit intercedes, making my prayers clear to God.

     เพราะคาดว่าวันจันทร์จะมีแดดดีและอบอุ่น ดิฉันจึงวางแผนว่าจะทำสวนดอกไม้
แต่พอถึงวันจันทร์เข้าจริงดิฉันพบแต่ถุงมือทำสวนเท่านั้น หาเสียมอันน้อยๆ เท่าไรก็
ไม่เจอทำให้รู้สึกผิดหวังที่หาเครื่องมือได้ไม่ครบ จึงเลิกทำสิ่งที่อุตส่าห์วางแผนจะทำให้
สำเร็จ การเตรียมตัวทำงาน เช่น การทำสวนนั้นสำคัญฉันใด การเตรียมใจและวิญญาณ
เพื่อทำงานของพระเจ้าแต่ละวันก็สำคัญด้วยฉันนั้น ถึงดิฉันจะไม่สามารถทราบล่วงหน้า
ว่า “พระเจ้าจะทรงใช้ให้ทำงาน” เวลาใดในแต่ละวัน แต่ก็สามารถเตรียมใจไว้ก่อนได้
การอธิษฐาน อ่านพระคัมภีร์และการรอว่าเมื่อใดพระเจ้าจะทรงมอบหมายให้ทำสิ่งที่ไม่
คาดคิดจะช่วยให้ดิฉันเตรียมการไว้ล่วงหน้า และถ้าได้เตรียมใจไว้พร้อมดิฉันจะทำ

ชวนลูกชายของเธอไปงานสำคัญที่โบสถ์กับเรา ดิฉันจึงโทรฯไปเพราะเตรียมใจไว้พร้อม
เพื่อทำงาน เมื่อหนุ่มคนนั้นไปกับเราและต่างก็มีความสุขสนุกสนานจนเขาหวังจะไป
ด้วยกันอีก
      พระเจ้าทรงให้เกียรติการเตรียมพร้อมของเรา โดยมอบให้เราเป็นผู้หว่านเมล็ดพันธุ์
เพื่อแผ่นดินของพระองค์ในโลกนี้

      Sunshine and warm temperatures were expected on Monday, and I had planned to do some landscaping. But when Monday arrived, I could find only one gardening glove, and my small shovel was nowhere to be seen. Frustrated by my unsuccessful search for supplies, I gave up on the task I had planned to complete.
     Just as it is important to be prepared for physical tasks like yard work, it is also important that we are prepared mentally and spiritually each day for the tasks God has in store. We can’t always know ahead of time what “God-appointments” we will have on a given day, but we can prepare our minds for action. Through scripture, prayer, and the expectation that God will throw unforeseen assignments my way; we can be prepared ahead of time. And when we’re ready, we’re more apt to obey.
     Recently I felt the nudge to call the mother of my son’s friend to invite her son to a church event. I made the call because my mind was prepared for action. The young man came with us and had so much fun that he hopes to return.
     God honors our preparation by allowing us to be the sowers of seeds for God’s reign on earth.

     ดิฉันชอบพระธรรม 1 โครินธ์มากและอยากอ่านในพิธีแต่งงานของลูกชาย ถึงจะ
ไม่ชอบพูดในที่ประชุมแต่ดิฉันก็อยากอ่านให้เป็นข้อคิดและเป็นของขวัญแก่คู่สมรสที่
เพิ่งแต่งงานกัน จึงเริ่มเตรียมตัวด้วยการอ่านออกเสียงดังๆ ให้สามีฟังทุกเช้าและเขา
กับดิฉันจะพูดวลีสุดท้ายพร้อมกันว่า “แต่ความรักใหญ่ที่สุด” (1 โครินธ์13:13)
     เมื่อใกล้จะถึงวันแต่งงาน สุขภาพของสามีดิฉันทรุดลงอย่างรวดเร็ว ไม่ช้าก็เห็น
ได้ชัดว่าเขาไม่สามารถไปร่วมพิธีได้แม้เวลาอาบน้ำ รับประทานอาหารและแต่งตัวดิฉัน
ต้องช่วยเขา บ่อยครั้งเวลาสวมเสื้อให้ทำให้เขาแทบหายใจไม่ออก เขาขอบคุณแสดง
ความพอใจเสมอที่ดิฉันช่วยเหลือเขา และเราต่างก็อ้างพระวจนะจากพระคัมภีร์ให้กัน

"Love is patient; love is kind."- 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NRSV)
     First Corinthians 13 is a favorite scripture of mine, and I wanted to read it at my son’s wedding. Uncomfortable with public speaking but wanting to give this reading as a gift to the newlyweds, I began preparing by reading it aloud every morning to my husband, Paul. And every morning, he joined me in saying the last few words: “and the greatest of these is love.”
     As the wedding day drew closer, my husband’s health began to deteriorate quickly. It soon became clear that he would not be able to attend the wedding. He needed assistance with bathing, eating, and dressing. Putting on a shirt often left him out of breath. He was grateful for the help I gave him, and he expressed his appreciation often. We found ourselves quoting to each other words from the scripture: “Love is patient; love is kind.”
     Ten days after the wedding, my husband passed away. My new daughter-in-law read 1 Corinthians 13 at his service. I learned in those days that love is a true gift from God.

"Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools.
- Ecclesiastes 5:1 (NIV)
     As a child, I took lessons in martial arts. Each class began with bowing to the instructor and to the most senior member of the class, out of respect and gratitude for what they would teach us that day. Then we participated in meditation. We were to set aside the day’s struggles, emptying ourselves so that we could focus on the commands and instructions of the teacher.
     When we read God’s word, this same practice of meditation can help us set aside distractions before we begin. We can set aside thoughts of the co-worker who annoys us, the trouble-making student, the broken relationships, the fears about finances. Then we can focus on what God has to teach us. God may indeed teach us about the co-worker or our finances, but if we bring all those specific struggles to our reading, we may miss God’s lesson. That’s why Ecclesiastes 5:1 says, “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than offer the sacrifice of fools.” The psalmist proclaims, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path,” (119:105). If we bring the distractions of our day to our Bible reading, we may wind up walking down the wrong path. When we read humbly, with uncluttered minds, ready to listen, God will light each step of our lives.

     When I finished my exercise regimen, I decided to walk along the beach. At one point I stopped to watch and appreciate the power of a rolling wave as it approached me. I worried I would be soaked by the wave, so I had two options: stay and see what happens, or move back. I decided to stay. Slowly the great wave came toward me, then it receded.
     We can feel a similar sense of anxiety when circumstances threaten to overwhelm us. We may feel trapped in an emotional and spiritual whirlwind.
     When we allow our anxieties to overcome us, we are like the disciples who were frightened during the storm in today’s reading. They were witnesses to God’s power, and Jesus was among them. Still, their faith failed them. If we learn to depend fully on God’s power, we can remain at peace, knowing that all will be well. Even when we see great waves coming toward us, we can trust that little by little they will recede.
Thought for the Day: I can have peace and joy when I trust in God.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to rely fully on you when we are overwhelmed by the circumstances of our lives. Amen.

"I will be like the dew to Israel."- Hosea 14:5 (NIV)
     It was hot, and I was on a summer women’s retreat at my friend’s farm home. Everyone except me slept inside. Lying on the grass, I was sticky and uncomfortable in a sleeping bag made from a large sheet. I couldn’t sleep; so I talked to the cows as they stared back at me through the fence, and I watched the sheep munching away in the next field. From a dark blue sky a million stars sparkled back at me. Finally, I slept.
     I awoke often in the night — not because I was too hot but because I was surprisingly cooled and wonderfully refreshed. A dew had settled over my sheet, wrapping me in a complete, satisfying feeling of well-being. I woke simply to enjoy that feeling.
     Days later, while reading the Book of Hosea, I was reminded of the freshening dew. Hosea 14:4-5 describes Israel turning from sin. God says, “I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them. I will be like the dew to Israel.” With a thrill of recognition, I thought, Yes! I’ve experienced what that feels like. This promise to Israel reminds us that God’s love for us never wavers and provides the rest and restoration we long for.
Thought for the Day: I want to experience God’s love like the refreshing dew.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to confess our sins to you so that we may be soothed by the dew of your forgiveness and mercy. Amen.

Paul wrote, “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”
- Philippians 4:12 (NIV)
     I am going through a prolonged period of unemployment. In the past, I had always been able to find work. But during this current period of unemployment, I have come to accept that I will experience hardships in my life.
     Hardships are not necessarily times of judgment or punishment. Good times and bad times are both integral parts of life. I would be naïve not to expect hardships; but as a Christian, I can also hold on to hope and trust in God the Father.
     Both Job and Paul expressed wisdom in facing hardships. “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” Job asks (Job 2:10). The wisdom of his statement is subtle and difficult to grasp. Paul writes in Philippians 4:11: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” To me, it is a peaceful acceptance that I will experience both hardship and good times. But my trust, faith, and hope are in God, whose steadfast love and mercies are “new every morning.”
Thought for the Day:I will look for God’s love and mercy today.
Prayer: Dear God, take away our fear as we face hardships. Give us peace in knowing and trusting you. Amen.

ก็ไม่ค่อยกลัวนัก จึงเอนหลังและหลับตาทันใดนั้น ข้อพระคัมภีร์ที่อ่านวันนี้ก็ดัง

ด้วยความระมัดระวัง เราวางใจได้เพราะพระบิดาผู้สถิตในสวรรค์ผู้ทรงสร้างของเรา
และนักบินทั่วโลกไม่ทรงหลับสนิทหรือนิทรา (ดูสดุดี121:4)
     พระเจ้าไม่มีความกลัว ถ้าเราถวายตัวไว้ในพระหัตถ์ พระองค์จะทรงนำเราอย่าง

Our plane was gliding over patches of clouds. After a little while, the crew announced that because of weather, the flight might be bumpy, but there was no reason to panic. However, I had never been so scared during a flight. I leaned back and closed my eyes."
     Suddenly, today’s verse echoed in my ear, and I felt something different. Ah! It is God’s presence! It was so different, so comforting and lively.
     I started thinking about the pilot who was awake while the passengers were sleeping. He was alert and controlling the aircraft.
     Our heavenly Father, Creator and Pilot of the whole universe, never sleeps nor slumbers. We can lean on God without fear. If we surrender ourselves to God’s hands, God will faithfully lead us even when we are not sure of the path ahead. I am thankful for God’s word and for God’s eyes upon each of us until the end of our life journeys.

ลึกอีกนิด A LITTLE DEEPER

ทันใดนั้นพระเยซูตรัสกับเขาว่า“ทำใจให้ดีไว้เถิด เราเอง อย่ากลัวเลย” (มัทธิว 14:27)

     ลูกสาววัยสองขวบของดิฉันยืนลังเลอยู่บนชายฝั่งห่างจากน้ำริมอ่าวไม่ถึงคืบและ
บอกว่า “หนูกลัว” น้าของเธอจึงปลอบว่า “ไม่เป็นไรหรอก ลงมาแค่ก้าวเดียวเท่านั้น”
เธอจึงเดินลงน้ำก้าวเล็กๆ น้านิกกี้บอกอีกว่า “ทีนี้เดินลึกอีกนิดนะ” เธอจึงเดินลึกลง
ไปอีกก้าวและอีกก้าวไปจับมือน้าของเธอด้วยความมั่นใจ “ลึกอีกนิด อีกนิดนะ” ไม่นาน
ลูกสาวของดิฉันก็ยืนอยู่ในน้ำลึกแค่สะเอวและตะโกนด้วยความตื่นเต้นว่า “หนูลงน้ำ
ได้แล้ว หนูลงน้ำได้แล้ว”
     ดิฉันรู้สึกอิจฉาลูก ที่จริงดิฉันหลอกตนเองมาตลอดด้วยความรู้สึกอย่างเดียวกัน
ว่าชนะแล้วเพราะกลัวจนไม่กล้าเดินตามพระเยซูลงไปให้ลึกอีกนิด บ่อยแค่ไหนหนอ
ที่ดิฉันยืนอยู่บนฝั่งของความรู้สึกไม่มั่นคง ความไม่มั่นคงนี่แหละที่ทำให้เรากลัวเอา
มากๆ จนต้องยืนบนฝั่งและเตือนตนเองให้ระวังคนอื่นนินทาว่าร้าย แต่พระคริสต์ไม่
เคยกล่าวร้ายเราแม้แต่คำเดียว พระเยซูไม่ทรงต้องการให้เราเอาแต่ยืนอยู่บนฝั่ง แต่
ทรงหนุนใจเราให้ออกมายืนอยู่ตรงที่เราจะพบความเข้าใจลึกซึ้งและเอาชนะความกลัวได้
อย่างแท้จริง โดยตรัสว่า “ลึกอีกนิด อีกนิดนะ” ดิฉันอยากมีความรู้สึกเหมือนลูกสาว
อายุ2 ขวบที่ลงเล่นคลื่นในน้ำอย่างสนุกสนานเบิกบานใจ คือเอาชนะทั้งความกลัว
ความสงสัยและความรู้สึกไม่มั่นคงสิ่งที่นำเราไปสู่ความยินดีเหมือนเด็กๆ ได้ก็คือต้องกล้าก้าวลึกลง

     My two-year-old daughter stood hesitantly on the shore, the Gulf Coast waters inches away from her feet. “I’m scared,” she said adamantly. “It’s okay,” her aunt coaxed, “take just one step.” She took one baby step. “Okay,” said Aunt Nikki, “now just a little deeper.” She took another step and another while trustingly holding her aunt’s hand. “A little deeper, now a little deeper.” In a few moments my daughter was standing triumphantly waist deep in the shallow water. “I’m in! I’m in!” she shouted excitedly.
     I envied her, thinking of all the times I’ve cheated myself of that same feeling of victory because I’m too scared to follow Jesus out a little deeper. How often have I chosen to stay up on the shore of insecurity? Our insecurities may make sense to us, but they keep us on the shore by constantly reminding us of the negative judgments of others. But Christ passes no such judgments. He does not want us to stay on the shore but coaxes us out to where we can find true intimacy and victory. “Just a little deeper,” he says. I want to feel the same joy my two-year-old felt as she jubilantly played in the waves  the feeling of victory over my fears and doubts and insecurities. But the path to that kind of joy lies out a little deeper.
Prayer: Dear Lord, grant us the courage to follow you out into a deeper Christian experience today. Amen.

     ผมเป็นครูฝึกนักบินกองทัพเรือสหรัฐอเมริกาและสอนนักศึกษาขับเครื่องบินเจ็ต
ความเร็วสูงระบบซับซ้อน สิ่งหนึ่งซึ่งนักศึกษาประสบความลำบากคือการฝึกฟังให้เข้าใจ
คำสั่งสำคัญๆ ทางวิทยุผู้ควบคุมการบินจะพูดเร็วและบางครั้งใช้ศัพท์ย่อทำให้การ
สื่อสารแบบนั้นจับความหมายได้ยากมาก ถ้าคำสั่งทางวิทยุทำให้นักศึกษาของผมสับสน
และฟังไม่ค่อยเข้าใจ ผมจะใช้ประสบการณ์ที่เคยฝึกมาสอนพวกเขาให้แปลคำสั่งของ
ผู้ควบคุมการบิน เราที่เป็นนักบินต้องทำตามคำสั่งเหล่านั้นเพื่อจะบินต่อไปได้อย่าง

     I serve as an instructor pilot in the United States Navy Reserve and teach students to fly complex jet aircraft that travel at high speeds. One of the areas in which student pilots encounter difficulty is in learning to listen effectively and understand critical radio communications. Air traffic controllers speak quickly and often use abbreviated terminology, which sometimes makes their communications difficult to grasp. When my students become confused by a radio call they do not comprehend, I draw on past experience and training to help them translate the controller’s instructions. We need those instructions as pilots in order to continue flying safely and to complete our mission.
     The challenges faced by my students are not unlike those that we face as Christians trying to carry out God’s will. We might be eager and determined to follow God’s plan in our lives, but too often we neglect to work on our listening skills. Fortunately, like my students, we have the ability to become better listeners. Training our ears through regular study of the Bible and faithful participation in worship makes it easier to understand the communications God is sending us.

     กล่าวว่า พระเจ้าทรงสัญญาจะให้พวกเขาเป็นไท
“ฝ่ายประชาชนเมื่อได้ยินว่าพระเจ้าเสด็จมาเยี่ยมเยียนชนชาติอิสราเอล... 
แล้วก็เชื่อ เขาก็กราบลงนมัสการ” (อพยพ 4:31) พวกอิสราเอลจะตื่นเต้น
สักเท่าใดที่รู้ว่าพระเจ้าจะทรงช่วยปลดปล่อยเขาและคงคิดว่าการอพยพจะเกิดขึ้นได้โดยง่าย
และทันทีทันใด แทนที่จะเป็นเช่นนั้นสถานการณ์กลับลำบากมาก ฟาโรห์ไม่ยอมปล่อยพวกเขา

     When Moses told the Hebrew leaders all that God had promised to accomplish, “They believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned . . . they bowed down and worshiped” (Exod. 4:31). How excited the Israelites must have been, knowing that God would deliver them! Perhaps they imagined a quick, easy exodus. Instead, their predicament got worse. Pharaoh wasn’t about to release them simply because Moses told him to; in fact, he imposed tougher demands on them. So rather than bowing down and worshiping God, they complained.
     Sometimes I’m like the Israelites. I trust God’s leading and joyfully worship. Then the path gets rocky; and instead of turning to God, I complain. Instead of seeing the obstacles as opportunities to trust God, I get discouraged.
     Many times in the Bible, circumstances got worse before God’s promises became reality: Joseph was imprisoned before becoming a leader; Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son before becoming the father of nations; Paul was blinded before becoming an apostle to the Gentiles. But God continued to work in the lives of these people and continues to work in ours. Knowing that God is always present, we can rejoice and worship even in hard times.

Thought for the Day: With God’s help, I can overcome obstacles.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your faithfulness. When we struggle, help us to see that you are still at work in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

     ภรรยาของผมจัดแสดงคอนเสิร์ตระดมทุนเพื่อแก้ไขการจราจร เนื่องจากอาศัย
อยู่ในซอยตันเราจึงเป็นห่วงเรื่องที่จอดรถของผู้มาร่วมงาน ดีนะที่เรามีสวนสาธารณะ
อยู่ถัดไปแต่ทางเข้าต้องผ่านทางแคบระหว่างเสาไม้สูงแค่หัวเข่าสองต้น เราจึงแก้ไขโดยผมกับ
ลูกชายยืนอยู่สองข้างทางคอยช่วยนำคนขับรถทั้งขาเข้าและขาออก
     เรื่องนี้ทำให้ผมคิดถึงทางแคบที่นำไปสู่ชีวิตนิรันดร์(ดูมัทธิว 7:13-14) ขอบคุณ
พระเจ้าที่มีคนมากหลายทำหน้าที่นำวิญญาณผมให้อยู่กับร่องรอยของความเชื่อและ
มองเห็นความสำคัญของตนเองซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำทางชีวิตแก่คนที่ผมเกี่ยวข้องด้วย
ผมอธิษฐานเสมอเพื่อจะได้มีชีวิตอยู่ในเส้นทางที่นำไปสู่ชีวิตนิรันดร์ และช่วยนำคนอื่น
มาหาพระเจ้าด้วย

     My wife, Megan, arranged a concert at our home to raise funds for a charity that works to eliminate human trafficking. Since we live at the end of a cul-de-sac, we were concerned about parking for the visitors. Fortunately, we have a large park next door, but the only access is through a narrow gap between two knee-high wooden poles. Our solution was for my son and me to stand on either side of the poles to guide the drivers in and out.
     This made me think about the narrow path that leads to eternal life. Then, I thanked God for the many people who have acted as spiritual guides to keep me on the path of faith. I also thought about how important it is for me to act as a guide for those whose lives I touch. I pray constantly that I will stay on that path that leads to eternal life and that I may lead others to God as well.

Thought for the Day :For whom can I act as a spiritual guide today?
Prayer:Thank you, God, for our spiritual guides. Please help us to act as faithful mentors to others. Amen.

เก้าสิบเก้าตัวไว้บนภูเขาแล้วไปเที่ยวหาตัวที่หายนั้นหรือ" (มัทธิว 18:12)

     ดิฉันเห็นใจผู้ที่ถูกตัดสินว่าละเมิดกฎหมายเป็นพิเศษ ที่เป็นเช่นนี้เพราะคงได้รับ
“มรดก” จากคุณพ่อ ท่านทำงานช่วยเหลือคนที่ถูกภาคทัณฑ์หรือถูกจำคุก ถึงท่านจะ
เคร่งครัดกับพวกเขาแต่ก็ดูแลเป็นอย่างดีท่านพูดกับพวกเขา พยายามช่วยให้เปลี่ยน
ใจ “สะอาด” และเริ่มต้นชีวิตใหม่ที่มีเป้าหมายและเกิดผล คุณพ่อบอกดิฉันว่าคนที่
ท่านทำงานด้วยส่วนใหญ่มาจากครอบครัวที่ขาดความรัก ทุกคนต้องจึงการความรัก

ผู้สถิตในสวรรค์ด้วย ขณะที่เรามองดูอาชญากรว่าเป็นคนไร้ค่า แต่พระเจ้าทรงดูแล
รักษาพวกเขา สิ่งสำคัญก็คือพวกเขาเป็นคนที่พระเจ้าทรงสร้างตามพระฉายาและตาม
อย่างพระองค์ถึงพวกเขาจะเป็นคนไร้กฎหมายพระเจ้าก็ยังรักและตามหา
      สวรรค์มีความยินดีปรีดาเมื่อได้พบคนหลงหาย ครอบครัวของดิฉันรู้เรื่องนี้ด้วย
ตนเองเพราะน้องชายของดิฉันเป็นคนหนึ่งในพวกเขา แม้เราทุกคนจะทำบาป พระเยซู

"If a shepherd has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?"

     I have a special place in my heart for those who have been convicted of breaking the law. I must have “inherited” it from my father. He worked with people who had been either on probation or incarcerated. He was strict with them, yet caring. He talked with them and tried to help them to change, to get “clean” and begin to live purposeful and productive lives. My dad told me that most of the people he worked with came from dysfunctional families. All of them, especially teenagers, desperately want to be loved.
     Maybe, in addition to my dad’s influence, I inherited this empathy from my heavenly Father. While we may see criminals as unworthy, God cares for them; after all, they too are created in God’s image and likeness. In spite of their lawlessness, God loves them and seeks them out.
    Heaven rejoices when the lost are found. My family knows it firsthand; my brother was one of them. Even though we are all capable of sin, Jesus redeems us by his shed blood — a sacrifice that brings us God’s forgiveness. All of us who have lived outside God’s law can now live righteously and with purpose.

      เมื่อเร็วๆ นี้ภรรยาของผมเริ่มทำเคมีบำบัดครั้งที่สองภายในสี่ปีผมพยายามทำใจ
กับสถานการณ์ของเราและพึ่งพระกำลังของพระเจ้า ผมวิงวอนพระเจ้าทุกวันว่า “ขอ
ทรงรักษาเธอให้หายโดยเร็วด้วยเถิดพระเจ้าข้า” เพราะคาดว่าจะได้เห็นผลทันที
     โมทนาพระคุณที่พระเจ้าทรงอวยพรผมและภรรยามาแล้วหลายปี และหวังว่า
สักวันหนึ่งจะได้ไปอยู่กับพระองค์ แต่ก็ยังอดเป็นห่วงไม่ได้และยังพึ่งความเข้าใจของ
ตนเองว่าสุขภาพของภรรยาจะกลับดีได้โดยเร็ววัน ข้อพระคัมภีร์สำหรับอ่านวันนี้สอน
ผมให้พึ่งความเข้าใจจากพระเจ้าแทน ผมจึงพยายามวางใจให้พระเจ้าทรงรักษาภรรยา
ทั้งรู้สึกยินดีในพระสัญญาและได้รับกำลังใจจากพระคัมภีร์ พระเจ้าทรงสัญญาว่าเรา
จะมีความพอใจแม้เมื่อเผชิญความตายหากพึ่งพระกำลังจากพระคริสต์

     When my wife, Rae, began chemotherapy treatments for the second time in four years, I tried to become content with our situation and rely on God for strength. My daily supplication to God became, “Please heal her quickly, Lord.” I expected immediate results.
     I am grateful that the Lord has blessed my wife and me with many years together, and we hope to be with the Lord someday. But I am still anxious and still rely upon my own understanding as I hope for my wife’s quick return to health. Today’s quoted scripture tells me to look instead to God for understanding. I am trying to trust God with my wife’s healing and find joy in the promises and encouragement of scripture. God promises that we can be content even when facing mortality if we rely on Christ for strength.

Thought for the Day : I can find strength by trusting God.
Prayer : Heavenly Father, give us the courage to face the unknown through our faith in you as we pray, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen” (Matt. 6:9-13, KJV).

"จิตใจของข้าพเจ้าเอ๋ย ไฉนเจ้าจึงฝ่ออยู่ไฉนเจ้าจึงกระสับกระส่าย
ภายในข้าพเจ้า จงหวังใจในพระเจ้าเพราะข้าพเจ้าจะถวายสดุดีแด่
พระองค์อีก ผู้ทรงเป็นความอุปถัมภ์และพระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้า" (สดุดี42:5)

     หนึ่งในบรรดาหลายสิ่งที่ดิฉันเรียนรู้ครั้งแรกๆ ตอนเป็นครูสอนรวีวารศึกษาคือ
เด็กจะร้องไห้อยากพบพ่อแม่ของตน ทุกวันอาทิตย์จะมีเด็กอย่างน้อยคนหนึ่งน้ำตา
ไหลพรากหลังจากพ่อแม่ที่เขารู้สึกอบอุ่นและปลอดภัยออกจากห้องเรียนไป
ดิฉันค่อยๆ อธิบายให้เด็กเข้าใจว่า พ่อแม่ของพวกเขาอยู่ไม่ไกล ที่พวกเขาเข้า
มาในชั้นก็เพื่อช่วยให้ได้เรียนรู้ ไม่ได้หมายความว่าจะทอดทิ้งหรือหนีไปที่ไหนหรอก
     พอถึงตาที่ดิฉันเองถูกท้าทายบ้างจนโลกดูสับสนวุ่นวายและรู้สึกว่าช่วยตนเอง

ทรงประทับอยู่ใกล้คอยดูแลดิฉันอยู่ ทรงอนุญาตให้ดิฉันได้เรียนรู้และได้สร้างบุคลิกภาพ
ของตนเอง
     เดี๋ยวนี้ เมื่อใดที่ถูกสิ่งเลวร้ายคุกคามทำให้รู้สึกว่าพระเจ้าทรงอยู่ห่างไกล ดิฉัน
จะคิดถึงเด็กๆ ที่ร้องไห้งอแงระหว่างอยู่ในห้องเรียนรวีวารศึกษาเมื่อความมั่นใจกลับคืนมาใหม่
ดิฉันจะตอกย้ำให้ตนเองรู้ว่า “พระเจ้าทรงอยู่ใกล้”

     One of the first things I learned as a Sunday school teacher is that one child will always cry for their parents. Sunday after Sunday at least one child dissolves into tears after the people who make them feel secure have left the room.
     I gently explain to each child that their parents are nearby, that their parents brought them to the class to help them learn. It does not mean that they have been abandoned or will be separated for very long.
     Then, when a particular challenge disrupted my world and left me feeling helpless, I understood how the children feel. As I look back I wonder: Why did I fear? Why was life so difficult? Why did I feel lonely? My Lord was nearby, watching over me, but also allowing me to learn and build character.
     Now when adversity threatens to make me feel distant from God, I reflect on those distraught children during Sunday school. With renewed confidence I repeat: “God is nearby.”

Prayer : Holy and loving God, strengthen us through your powerful presence in our times of need. Amen.

     เพราะลูกชายของดิฉันเป็นมิชชันนารีคณะสหพันธ์แบ๊พติสต์ดิฉันมีโอกาสได้
พบกับคริสเตียนที่ซื่อสัตย์หลายคนขณะที่เดินทางไปกับเขา หรือไปเยี่ยมเขาในประเทศ
ต่างๆ ผลก็คือทำให้ดิฉันรู้สึกเหมือนได้ใกล้ชิดสนิทสนมกับผู้เชื่อที่อยู่โพ้นทะเลราวกับพวกเขา
เป็นเพื่อนบ้านใกล้ชิดของดิฉัน
     ที่ดิฉันรู้สึกสนิทสนมกับคริสเตียนเหล่านี้ก็เพราะเคยเห็นหน้า เคยได้ยินเสียงและเคยเห็นรอยยิ้ม ดิฉันเห็นว่าแอนดรี นัสทิยา

     My son is a United Methodist missionary. I have been fortunate to meet many faithful Christians while traveling with or visiting him in other countries. As a result, I feel just as connected to believers overseas as to those in the next town.

     I feel close to these Christians because I have faces, voices, and smiles to help me connect. Andriy, Nastiya, Sergei, and Pavel are real people to me. When I read a meditation in The Upper Room written by Pavel, I can remember him and rejoice that he is my brother in Christ. When I pray for these friends, I’m praying for people whom I know personally. I have heard their stories.

     Not all of us have the opportunity to travel to other lands, but each of us can find brothers and sisters God is calling us to love. A local mission trip, a feeding program, a ministry to the sick or elderly, and other creative ministries all help us make a connection in the body of Christ with those who were once strangers.

Thought for the Day : In Christ, we have brothers and sisters all over the world.
Prayer : Dear God, help us always to remember our connection to the entire body of Christ. Amen.

ฝังตะลันต์ BURYING YOUR TALENTS?

"ข้าพเจ้ากลัวจึงเอาเงินตะลันต์ของท่านไปซ่อนไว้ใต้ดิน
ดูเถิด นี่แหละเงินของท่าน" (มัทธิว 25:25)

     เมื่อเร็ววันนี้ศิษยาภิบาลชั่วคราวของเราเทศน์เรื่องตะลันต์ในคำอุปมา (ดูมัทธิว
25:14-30) ทำให้ผมเข้าใจความหมายทั้งหมดดีขึ้น เพราะตลอดมาผมเคยคิดว่าเรื่องนี้
เป็นเรื่องเงินทองเท่านั้นจึงไม่เข้าใจว่าทำไมเจ้านายจึงโกรธมากที่คนงานเอาตะลันต์ที่
ได้รับจากท่านไปฝังดิน ทั้งๆ ที่คนรับใช้ผู้นั้นไม่ได้ทำให้เงินหายไป คำเทศนาวันนั้น
สอนผมให้เข้าใจว่า “ตะลันต์ไม่ได้หมายถึงเงินทองเท่านั้น แต่หมายถึงความสามารถที่
พระเจ้าประทานให้เราด้วย”
     ความเข้าใจคำอุปมาเรื่องตะลันต์ที่ได้รับใหม่นี้ทำให้ผมคิดถึงอันดรูว์สาวกของ
พระเยซูถึงท่านเป็นชาวประมงธรรมดาแต่ก็สามารถใช้สิ่งที่มีอยู่นำคนมาหาพระเยซู
ท่านนำซีโมน (เปโตร) พี่ชายมาเฝ้าพระเยซู(ดู ยอห์น 1:41) และพบเด็กหนุ่มคนที่
มีขนมปังห้าก้อนและปลาสองตัวในวันที่พระเยซูทรงเลี้ยงประชาชนห้าพันคน
     เมื่อคิดถึงพระคัมภีร์แบบนี้ทำให้ผมเห็นชัดว่าเราสามารถใช้ของประทานที่พระเจ้า
ทรงมอบให้เพื่อขยายแผ่นดินของพระองค์ได้ ไม่ว่าของประทานที่ให้นั้นจะดูเหมือนมี
ค่าน้อย แต่พระเจ้าก็ทรงขยายตะลันต์เล็กน้อยนั้นให้กลายเป็นสิ่งที่น่าอัศจรรย์ได้
อธิษฐาน : ข้าแต่พระเป็นเจ้า ขอบพระคุณสำหรับตะลันต์ที่ทรงประทานแก่ข้าพระองค์
ทั้งหลาย ขอให้ข้าพระองค์ได้นำไปใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์แก่พระสิริของพระองค์ในพระนาม

"I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours."
- Matthew 25:25 (NRSV)
     Our interim pastor recently preached a sermon on the Parable of the Talents that helped me realize its fuller meaning. Because I had always looked at this parable only in terms of money, I could not understand why the master was so angry at the servant who hid his talent. After all, this servant did not lose the money. But this sermon reminded me that “talents” can be our God-given gifts, not just money.
     My new understanding of the parable made me think of Jesus’ disciple, Andrew. He was an average, everyday fisherman. But he used what he had to bring new people to Jesus. He brought his brother, Simon [Peter], to meet Jesus (see John 1:41) and found the young man with the five loaves and two fish the day Jesus fed five thousand people. (See John 6:7-9.)
     Thinking about the parable in this new way, I began to see that we can use our God-given gifts for furthering God’s kingdom, no matter how small they may seem. God can magnify any small talent into something wonderful
